The Thrust Theater project includes a three-story proscenium theater built into the hillside of the Arts Quad adjacent to the existing Drama and Architecture buildings. A transparent curtain wall facade on the north side of the lobby fronts the existing entrance to the Culbreth Drama building. The roof of the theater will consist of a vegetated roof terrace at the same level as the upper Arts Quad.
The principal space is a 300-seat Thrust Theater, a “theater-in-the-round” with audience surrounding three sides of the stage. Vormitory entrances provide performer entrances from backstage dressing rooms and the green room. The venue will accommodate theater, dance, film, music, and lectures. The scope includes new restrooms, backstage support spaces, catwalks and control room and new lobby spaces that connect with the existing Culbreth Theater lobby.
