This project consists of the new construction of a 38,080-square-foot, single story, masonry/metal stud/structural steel building, including brick veneer, and an EPDM/metal roof, with associated sitework.
The Powell Wellness Center serves as a rehab center for Culpeper Hospital. It includes offices and administrative space. The center has aerobics areas, weight rooms, a variety of exercise equipment, an indoor track, and locker rooms.
The center includes a “turtle pool,” which is a therapy pool that includes areas for lap swimming, and different chambers with different temperatures. It is one of only six in the nation. The acronym means: therapeutic, unique, rehabilitative, two, temperature, lap, exercise pool.
Dan Emerson, facilities manager, says, “Nielsen was wonderful. Nielsen is one of the first contractors ever that I could call and actually talk to a person and not be placed on hold. William Johnson was excellent as a project manager, and David Meadows was great as a superintendent. Nielsen was very responsive to any issue that we had. In the past, we’ve had difficulty with contractors wanting to walk away without taking care of last minute details. The project turned out well; everyone is pleased.”
